YKBR Kalbarri, Western Australia (VERSION 3) and townsite

File Description:
YKBR Kalbarri includes a townsite where there was none in FSX and the entire mouth of the estuary and immediate coastline - The airport was rebuilt in 2001 replacing the old Kalbarri Strip. The Kalbarri Airport, 10km east of Kalbarri on the Kalbarri-Ajana Road, is a jointly owned by the Shires of Northampton and Greenough. The Airport was funded by both Shires, the State Government and significant contributions were also received from Arkona Holdings and Westralia Airports Corporation. The total cost of the construction is approximately $1.7 million. The Airport was officially opened on the 22nd September 2001 by the Hon. Michelle Roberts. The fee to land at the Kalbarri Airport is $15.00. This can be paid at the airport or Shire office in Kalbarri at the Allen Centre on Grey Street. Private aircraft can be parked permanently at the airport. There is a fee of $264.00 per annum and is payable in lieu of any landing fee. YKEB Kellerberrin, Western Australia

File Description:
YKEB Kellerberrin was modelled at the request of Councillor Cole. In this updated version, the silos have been added and the landclass for the town south of the highway has been masked giving a more realistic impression from the air. Kellerberrin is a town in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, 205 kilometres east of Perth on the Great Eastern Highway. The railway line from Northam to Southern Cross was constructed through here in 1893-94, and this section opened for traffic in 1895. Kellerberrin was one of the original stations when the line opened. By 1898 there was a demand for small blocks of land in the area, and the government surveyed a number of 20-acre lots the same year. The area was gazetted as Kellerberrin townsite in 1901, and the government soon made more land available for settlers. Early settlers from 1890 to 1910 from Ireland settled in the area of Kellerberrin and Wittem. Their family name was English. A road was named after this family. The name Kellerberrin is Aboriginal, and is derived from the name of a nearby hill. The hill was first recorded as "Killaburing Hill" by an explorer in 1861, but in 1864 the explorer Charles Hunt recorded it as Kellerberrin Hill. One source claims that Kellerberrin is the name for the fierce ants that are found in the area, while another gives it as meaning "camping place near where rainbow birds are found" - kalla means camping place or place of, and berrin berrin is the rainbow bird. YKLN Kulin Town and YJLN Kulin, Jilakin Rock. Kulin is located in the upper great southern Wheatbelt of Western Australia, the Shire of Kulin covers an area of 4,790 square kilometres. It encompasses the towns of Kulin, Pingaring, Dudinin, Jitarning, and Holt Rock. The Kulin economy is based on agriculture and was settled by pastoralists in 1905. The crosswind runway is actually 7 miles to the east at Jilakin Rock and slopes uphill to the east. For convenience, I have used fictitious YJLN. Jilakin Downs is a Dorper sheep stud farm and the home of the Kulin Bush Races. Dorpers are currently under a cloud in Western Australia as the local abatoirs claim their hair is contaminating the meat and won't accept them. "We welcome air traffic to our 2012 Kulin Bush Races Weekend. A crosswind airstrip is available, with a shuttle bus service to the Jilakin Track. GPS position is S32-39-95 E118-18-71 and the elevation is 950 feet. The strip is 7 nautical miles east of the town of Kulin. Camping and toilets are close to the strip so that you can camp near your plane. YLEA Leeman, Western Australia (Snag Island) airstrip and town

File Description:
YLEA Leeman - formerley Snag Island is a tiny fishing village which is ideal for fishermen and holiday makers eager to get away from the more commercialised centres. Calling itself the 'Home of Western Australia's Dhufish' the settlement boasts huge and dramatic white sand dunes, good beach and offshore fishing, safe beaches for surfing, swimming and sailboarding, and superb displays of wildflowers in the spring. Leeman is home to a crayfish (lobster) fishing fleet which plies the fishing grounds off the coast in the season. The industry developed in the 1950s and has since become one of the most important on the Central West coast. It is also a dormitory suburb for the nearby sand mining town of Eneabba. YLUW Leeuwin Estate, one of the founding wineries of the now famous Margaret River district, consistently produces wines that rank with the world's finest. In 1972, following an extensive search for the area most suitable to produce the best varietal wines in Australia, legendary American winemaker, Robert Mondavi, identified the future site of the Leeuwin vineyard. YMBE Mooliabeenie Siding, Western Australia (closed)

File Description:
YMBE Mooliabeenie Siding is a disused 1,500 m (4,900 ft) long satelite airstrip which was used by the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and associated with the Caversham Airfield at Middle Swan. YMDN Merredin Town and Airfield - includes townsite landclass. Merredin, a town better known for its wheat and sheep exports. But for almost a decade, it's where one of Asia's busiest carriers, China Southern Airlines, has been sending its trainee pilots to learn how to fly. "They come from a country with a population of more than a billion people. Right now they live in Merredin - population, depending on who's visiting, around 2,000. For nine years now, they and hundreds like them have travelled to WA's empty, sprawling Wheatbelt to learn how to fly. The middle of the Wheatbelt is not the first place you'd look for the future of Chinese commercial aviation. But before these fledgling flyers can spread their wings with China's largest airline, they must pass six months of boot camp in Merredin. Most of them are from China's southern provinces. Their backgrounds are varied. For many of them, it's the first time that they've operated some form of machinery, which includes those students that haven't even had an exposure to driving a motor car. It's early days in their careers. The students are putting in the groundwork. First, mastering the art of piloting single-engine two-seater planes. It's all preparation for the Boeings and airbuses they'll eventually be flying on major international routes. The pressure is intense. Every aspect of the student's progress is measured. Failure can have serious implications for their hopes of becoming commercial pilots. It's part theory and part practical. But flying isn't the only thing that these young men have to get used to in Merredin. For one, there's the incredibly slow pace of country life. YMGM Mount Gibson Gold Mine, Western Australia

File Description:
YMGM Mount Gibson Gold Mine (Care and Maintenance - Legend Mining Ltd), started life as a gold mining operation in 1986 following the discovery of gold in outcropping laterite (ironstone). Mining was conducted until 1998, with 95% of ore coming from 14 open pits. The operation produced 870,000 ounces of gold from 16.5Mt of ore at an average grade of 1.68 grams per tonne (g/t). The current gold Mineral Resource (Indicated and Inferred) is 8,754,000 tonnes at an estimated grade of 1.98 g/t gold (559,000 ounces of gold). This resource is not economic at the current gold price. An extensive rehabilitation programme involving the decommissioning of the plant/mill infrastructure is currently being undertaken with a view to reducing environmental bonds.
