YCDN Corunna Downs Station and Old Corunna Downs RAAF (Closed)

File Description:
Corunna Downs heritage listed RAAF Base was a secret airfield located in scrub and spinifex country, about 16 kms south west of Marble Bar, the hottest part of the "The Pilbara" area of Western Australia. Not a very ideal place to have a tent city. Today there are very few reminders of the once busy airfield. One can see some crumbling foundations and half filled post holes. 73 OBU operated the Corunna Downs airfield which comprised two intersecting bitumen runways, now regressed and graded occasionally. One ran approximately north-south, 5,000 feet in length while the other ran approximately east-west, 7,000 feet in length. Both runways were approximately 150 feet wide. A 50 foot wide taxiway linked the northern end of the north-south runway to the western end of the east-west runway. Approximately 20 camouflaged revetments to disperse aircraft to minimise bomb damage were constructed at Corunna Downs. Permission is required for landing and there may be vegetation on the strip if not graded recently. No cones or windsock so be careful. Corunna Downs Homestead is also heritage listed and consists of graded strips and homestead complex. Start points are at the homestead and the RAAF base is to the west. YCHP Yanchep St Andrews, Western Australia (Closed)

File Description:
YCHP Yanchep St Andrews (Closed) was built by the Bond Corporation in the 60's for the development of the St Andrews Estate and Sun City development and has since fallen into disrepair. Alan Bond was a larger than life character and most of Western Australia will still remember his airship or his lear jet flying around Perth. I have placed a windsock and cones to help you find your way around on the ground because there is little else there. In real life, the strip may still look inviting but it is overgrown and most likely not safe. REQUIRES Blencowe_LibraryKit.zip

YCRW Crawley Bay, Western Australia, US Catalina Base - QANTAS base (Historic 1942)

File Description:
YCRW Crawley Bay USAF Catalina Base - QANTAS base (Historic 1942). This location was where the famous double sunrise flights left for Lake Koggala in Sri Lanka (Ceylon) between 1943 and 1946. Suited to Rick Stone's PBY5A Catalina. The USAF used the north side of the point and QANTAS used what is now the boat ramp at Nedlands. Remember, Perth was only about two or three stories high in those days so for a realistic enactment, totally overload the aircraft (towards the front) and just point between the buildings until you gain some height. To cover the distance, cruise at about 110kts and 500 feet. Don't forget the passengers stand at the front on takeoff and can be seated after you are in the air. YDON Dowerin Town and Airstrip (Modelled for Dowerin Field Days)

File Description:
YDON Dowerin is home to the Dowerin GWN Field Days, currently a two day annual event (held in the last week of August) showcasing agricultural and associated equipment, as well as providing information and services to people from rural areas. The Field Days attract on average in excess of 600 exhibitors as well as over 15,000 local and national visitors each day. The event was first held as the Dowerin Machinery Field Day on 3 September 1965, and was the result of meetings by the Dowerin Progress Association the previous year which looked at ideas to prevent the town of Dowerin from becoming a ghost town. Some twenty exhibitors and two thousand visitors attended the first field day, with funds raised from the first event going towards funding the construction of a dam and a grassed tennis court. The event continues to be run and managed by the local community, with three full time staff and 400 volunteers involved in the event's running each year. REQUIRES Blencowe_LibraryKit.zip

YCVS Cervantes, Western Australia (Airstrip and Town)

File Description:
Cervantes, Western Australia is located 247kms north of Perth and is the gateway to Australia's Coral Coast. Established in 1962 and named after an American whaling ship wrecked off the coast in 1844, Cervantes is a small but growing fishing town. Cervantes is also in close proximity to the Nambung National Park and the Pinnacles Desert. Many families from Perth enjoy the close proximity of Cervantes to Perth for weekend getaways. YCE2 Ceres Fields (YCES Western Australia)

File Description:
How this 3,500 hectare farm ended up with the same name and ICAO code as the field in Victoria is not known but when I ran the owner of the strip, he claimed he still held current registration papers for YCES and it was a surprise to him. This will not cause any problems with your simulator as the FSX code has been amended to YCE2. The farm grows wheat and canola. REQUIRES Blencowe_LibraryKit.zip

YCVM Caversham RAAF Base, Western Australia (Closed 1942)

File Description:
YCVM Caversham (Closed 1942) - the last remains of this site as it looked in 2010. If you had permission to land, runway 05 - 23 would still be accessible for a light aircraft and an ultralight could still land on what is left of the others. Sadly, this historic site is destined to become a housing estate so this is my attempt to preserve it. As with most military sites, there is a shortage of images so I would appreciate any help to make it more accurate for the period rather than what currently remains. REQUIRES Blencowe_LibraryKit.zip

YDRD Drysdale River Station, Kimberley Region, Western Australia

File Description:
YDRD Drysdale River Station with strip and homestead complex is a stopping over point for 4WD tourists and campers and provides some refreshment for those on the road.
